I liked it. The plot and culprits were obvious for murder mystery fans like me but the characters are the mainstay. Lord Byron especially if you like Shelley's Frankenstein and know some history to Byron's eventual addiction and mania. This is pre-Frankenstein. The story rotates around the Berkeley Brigade. A small group of murder investigators who Joan Smith has developed into well defined characters. A cozy book. You'll suspect the outcome and will be mostly correct but they are fun to read.Product details

I'm a fan of Joan Smith's regency romances and thought that perhaps if she writes such entertaining romances, then perhaps her murder mysteries are just as interesting. This one is! I was very amused throughout the entire book --it had the right amount of mystery to keep me wondering and turning the pages and enough humor in it to have me laughing out loud. I'm definitely going to try her other murder mysteries.
This book is great addition to the Berkeley Brigade mysteries series. In some places it is laugh out loud funny. This is Joan Smith at her best. I enjoyed her character developments and their foibles. Smith never disappoints. I enjoy Regency mysteries and I appreciate books where the characters behave according to the time period not with 21st century values and attitudes. Characters are engaging without being annoying. Thanks for another enjoyable read.
